Why do we create a paywall?
Our purpose is to provide a non-profit service, but in order to combat the influence of big tech, we had to establish and maintain our own private servers. Unfortunately, maintaining cloud storage, bandwidth, radio, TV, web hosting, and web domains comes at a cost.
We hope you understand and appreciate our independent efforts.
Do we profit from others' intellectual property?
No, we actually operate at a loss just to have our own platform. It is more of a passion project and hobby for us. Our impact in New Zealand and the rest of the world is quite small and specialized. The content we host is provided by the original creators who may not have the resources to host their art themselves. Sometimes, they offer their work to us for free promotion. If we don't host their works, we often stream it directly from their own platforms. If our goal was to become wealthy, we would pursue careers in banking or politics. However, our focus is on providing a platform for independent creators and challenging the existing power structures.
Words from the web-host.
While in London on a work VISA (during 2012-2013), I worked as a waiter for an exclusive agency. This exposed me to the corrupt and self-centered nature of the elite class. I served cocktails and food to bankers, Hollywood celebrities, famous musicians, and politicians like The Clinton Foundation. During this time, I overheard two quotes that stuck with me. Bill Clinton referred to overpopulation as the "purple elephant in the room," and some bankers discussed “to prepare a nation for war, you must first instil in everyday life: hatred, fear, racism, and divide.” These encounters solidified my understanding of power dynamics in society.
Support the underdogs in the storytelling battle!
In New Zealand, state owned media reaches 96% of the population. We on the other hand, have a small specialized reach and rely on word-of-mouth advertising. Help us entertain, educate, and enlighten by joining us for a small monthly contribution, like the price of a cup of coffee. Together, we can be innovative and imaginative. Media is narrative.
